Yellowstone National Park is Big Chill’s Hot, Hot, Hot Destination!
Having the distinction of being the first National Park in the United States, Yellowstone covers 2,221,766 acres, roughly the size of the state of Connecticut. Most of the park is located in the northwestern corner of Wyoming, but a small portion overlaps that state's boundaries with Montana and Idaho.
What makes Yellowstone our favorite Hot Spot?
The Geology * The park is home to the “fantastic four” of geological features: geysers, fumaroles, hot springs and mudpots. It has one of the world's largest calderas, one of the world's largest petrifiied forests, welded tuffs and over 290 waterfalls!
The Wildlife * Yellowstone is home to the largest concentration of mammals in the lower 48 states. In addition to having a diversity of small animals, Yellowstone is notable for its predator–prey complex of large mammals, including eight ungulate species: bighorn sheep, bison, elk, moose, mountain goats, mule deer, pronghorn, and white-tailed deer and seven large predators: black bears, Canada lynx, coyotes, grizzly bears, mountain lions, wolverines, and wolves.
The Flora * There are over 1,100 species of native plants, more than 200 species of exotic plants and over 400 species of thermophiles.
The Action * Hiking, Photography, Biking, Fishing, Horseback Riding, Rafting, Boating, Museums, Star-Gazing – there’s sure to be something for everyone!
Let Big Chill do the planning and driving to make this a trip of a lifetime!
